Putting the fun in functional: Freemotion ups “the cool factor”

If you’re a collector of pop culture items, there’s more than a little chance you’ve heard of Funko. With licensing rights to everything from comic book characters to sports stars, Funko has made a name for itself as the makers of quirky, trendy vinyl collectibles, action figures, graphic Tees and home and accessories (including skateboards!).

“We’ve had nothing but compliments about Freemotion. We love the versatility built into each piece. We love that Genesis gets our people on their feet to work out since they do spend a lot of time at their desks in front of a computer.”

BACKGROUND

Seattle is known for a lot of things – coffee, one-day convenience and more than a handful of emerging tech companies. But just north of Seattle by a few minutes, you’ll find a company with a focus on fun, aptly called Funko.

At one time, Funko was small enough that their gym only had to serve the few executives on the team. But with the company’s amazing success came a growing staff of designers, warehouse team and project support – and the need for a bigger fitness facility.

Funko wanted to create a fun and functional space for its young employees and create an atmosphere that generated excitement. Steering away from anything “old school,” Funko set out to reinforce its company brand with a gym experience full of unexpected machines that were anything but typical.

CHALLENGE

After meeting with Freemotion, the leaders at Funko loved the endless training possibilities of the Freemotion’s Genesis line, specifically the Genesis Dual Cable Cross. Combined with the other cable-based training solutions in the Genesis line, Funko selected Freemotion recumbent bikes, ellipticals, EPIC selectorized strength and EPIC Free Weights to create a complete gym offering to keep their employees fit, motivated and continually creative.

BUSINESS IMPACT

After setting up their fitness center, the leaders at Funko said the team was thrilled with the result. “We’ve had nothing but compliments about Freemotion,” said Brian Mariotti, CEO at Funko. “We love the versatility built into each piece. We love that Genesis gets our people on their feet to work out since they do spend a lot of time at their desks in front of a computer”.

Now that Funko has a well-stocked Freemotion gym, more employees are working out during their lunch hour and even a few go-getters log some gym time before starting their day. “We love the energy of the gym and solely attribute that to these great Freemotion machines,” said Brian. “Freemotion absolutely fits in with our brand”.
